IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: Wear rubber boots and eye protection when operating the appliance. Operation of the appliance in the hand-held position is unsafe, except in accordance with the special instructions for such use provided in the Operator’s Manual.
Warning–To prevent electric shock, use only with an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Warning–To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not immerse in water. Do not use the appliance in or near standing water. Warning–To avoid the risk of injury from flying debris, do not direct the discharge at others. Make sure that the path in front of the appliance is clear of people. Extension cords–To prevent disconnection of appliance cord from the extension cord during operation, connect the extension cord to the product as shown in page 4. Avoid accidental starting–Don’t carry the appliance with your finger on the switch. Be sure switch is off when plugging in. If cord is damaged in any manner while plugged in, pull extension cord from wall receptacle. Don’t abuse cord–Never carry appliance by cord or yank it to disconnect from receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges. Keep hands away from moving parts. Keep guards in place and in working order. Don’t force appliance–It will perform better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. Don’t overreach–Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Move and rotate the assist handle to a position that is comfortable for you. 2. Tighten the knob. m-7384 Adjusting the Power Shovel Plus Height 1. Set the shaft to a height that is comfortable for you. 2. Tighten the knob. m-7385 106-9808 3 Operation Preparing the appliance For safe and efficient use of your Power Shovel Plus, use only a UL-listed extension cord recommended for outdoor use. Refer to the Extension Cord Chart below. Extension Cord Chart If length of extension cord is less than or equal to: 100 ft. (30 m) 150 ft. (46 m) 1. Make a loop in the extension cord to the lower part of the control grip connecting it to the Power Shovel Plus. This helps prevent you from disconnecting the extension cord from the product during operation. m7696 Assure wire size gauge 16 14 (A.W.G.) in cord is: Note: Do not use an extension cord over 150 feet (46 m) long. 2. Plug the extension cord into a wall outlet. 3. Keep the area to be cleared free of stones, toys, or other foreign objects which the rotor blades may pick up and throw. Such items could be covered by snowfall and remain unnoticed. Warning Contact with water while operating the product could cause electric shock, causing injury or death. Starting and Stopping To start the Power Shovel Plus, push the button on the side of the handle grip (A) and squeeze the trigger (B). To stop the product, release the trigger. A m7689 Important: Check the power cord frequently during use for holes in the insulation. Do not use a damaged cord. Do not run the cord through standing water or wet grass. Note: When inserting the end of a suitable extension cord into the Power Shovel Plus, insert the enlarged prong into the wide slot in the extension cord end. See the Important Safety Instructions on page 1 for additional information. 4 Converting from Snowthrowing to Sweeping Important: Disconnect the power from the Power Shovel Plus before performing this procedure. 1. Remove the bolt on the side of the housing. 6. Install the deflector. m7694 Note: The deflector snaps into place. m-7386 2. Remove the snowthrower rotor from the housing. m7693 7. Loosen the lower knob on the shaft. 8. Rotate the handle grip to the opposite side of the shaft. m7397 3. Install the broom in the housing. 9. Tighten the knob. m-7385 m-7388 10. Ensure that the Power Shovel Plus is in the broom mode as shown. 4. Secure the broom with the bolt that you previously removed. m-7389 5. Tighten the bolt on the side of the housing. m7692 m-7386 Note: You may need to adjust the length of the shaft to comfortably operate in broom mode. Refer to Adjusting the Power Shovel Plus Height on page 3. 5 Converting from Sweeping to Snowthrowing Important: Disconnect the power from the Power Shovel Plus before performing this procedure. 1. Rotate the handle grip to the opposite side of the shaft. 4. Tighten the knob. 5. Ensure that the Power Shovel Plus is in the snowthrower mode as shown. m-7385 m-7386 3. Remove the broom from the housing. m-7388 4. Install the rotor in the housing by Inserting the end of the rotor onto the fitted end in the housing and rotating the rotor until it snaps into position. m7695 Note: You may need to adjust the length of the shaft to comfortably operate in snowthrower mode. Refer to Adjusting the Power Shovel Plus Height on page 3. m-7387 Note: The housing will flex when you install the snowthrower rotor. 6 Operating Tips Snowthrowing Mode · Start the Power Shovel Plus and tilt it forward until the scraper blade contacts the ground. Push the Power Shovel Plus forward at a comfortable rate of speed, yet slow enough to clear the path completely. The width and depth of the snow determines your forward speed. Direct the snow to the right or to the left by holding the Power Shovel Plus at a slight angle. For the most efficient snow removal, throw the snow downwind, and slightly overlap each swath. If you need to clear snow from crushed rock or gravel, push down on the handle to raise the scraper clear of loose material that the rotor blades could throw.
