There is plenty of space in this manual for you to add your own notes and observations Toro® Service Training 2 Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Toro® Service Training Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Check Engine Oil 3 Check the engine oil level daily. Remove the dipstick and check the level. The level should be between the two marks, If the level is low, remove the filler cap and add oil until the level reaches the upper mark on the dipstick. Change Engine Oil and Filter Every 100 Hrs. Change the engine oil and replace the oil filter every 100 hours. The engine holds approximately: 8.5 quarts/8 Liters (Model 30580) 10.6 quarts/10 liters (Model 30581) Fill with the proper weight oil for the ambient temperature. Ambient Temperature -20° to 20° F (-28.9° to -6.7° C) 20° to 105° F (-6.7° to -40.67° C) 105° F (40.6° C) and up Engine Oil filter number 30580 49-2500 Proper Viscosity SAE 10 SAE 30 SAE 40 30581 99-2143 Toro® Service Training 4 Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Toro® Service Training Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance 5 Fuel/Water Separator filter The fuel/water separator filter is located on the left hand side of the engine. Drain the fuel/water separator filter every day. Replace the fuel/water separator filter every 200 hours. Filter Number 30580 69-1770 30581 69-1770 Toro® Service Training 6 Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Toro® Service Training Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Change Fuel Filter Change the fuel filter every 1000 hrs or two years, which ever comes first. Depending on fuel conditions, the filter may need to be changed more frequently. Check the filter if engine performance decreases. Fuel filter part number: 30580 70-5730 30581 70-5730 7 Bleed the fuel system When the fuel filters have been changed, it is necessary to bleed the air from the fuel system. Open the bleed screw and pump the primer pump until a steady flow of fuel comes from the fuel pump. Clean the filter every 200 hrs (or when the air filter light comes on) Remove the air filter and clean with low pressure air. Inspect the sealing surfaces and inspect the air filter housing for damage. Check the level of the hydraulic oil daily. The fluid should be visible in the sight glass. 11 If hydraulic oil needs to be added, clean the area around the fill cap before opening. Add oil until the fluid reaches the middle of the sight glass. Listed below are hydraulic oil brands recommended for the 580-D. All are interchangeable with one another. Drain the hydraulic reservoir. Replace the hydraulic filter. Filter PN 69-1720 Change the hydraulic fluid and flush the reservoir every 1000hrs. Total system capacity is approximately 40 gal/151 liters of hydraulic oil. The reservoir holds 32 gal/121 liters of hydraulic oil. Toro® Service Training 12 Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Toro® Service Training Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Change the planetary hub oil every 400 Hrs 13 To change the fluid, rotate the check plug to the bottom of the hub (6 o’clock) Remove the plug and drain the fluid. Rotate the check plug to the 3 or 9 o’clock position and refill the hub with approximately 32 oz of SAE 80-90WT gear oil, until the fluid reaches the bottom of the check plug. Lubricate all grease fittings according the chart at the back of this booklet. Don’t over look the three grease fitting on the drive shaft from the engine to the hydrostatic pump. These fittings need to be greased every 50 hrs. Toro® Service Training 14 Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Toro® Service Training Toro ® GM580-D Preventative Maintenance Cutting Unit Maintenance Service Recommendation: 1. Check mower blades daily. 2. Check Blade torque daily, or after a blade strikes a solid object. 3. Grease castor wheel bearings daily. 4. Grease castor fork bushings daily. 5. Grease spindle bearings every 50 hrs. 6. Check drive belt tension every 50 hrs. · See operators manual for proper procedure. Blade Servicing: Check the blades for the following: 1. Wear in the sail area. · Wear can cause the sail to break loose from the blade and be thrown from the unit. · Replace blades with worn sail areas. 2. Twisted blades. · Check the blade from the end. Replace twisted blades. 3. Bent blades. · Check the blades for bent ends. Replace bent blades. Quality of Cut Issues:. 1. High Horsepower requirements. · Blades dull (sharpen blades). · Blades twisted (replace blades). · Bent blades (replace blades). · Front of blade higher than rear of blade (adjust mower decks). · Mower spindle bearing out. 2. Poor cut quality (rough cut grass blades). · Blades dull (sharpen blades). · Blades twisted (replace blades). · Bent blades (replace blades). · Deck belts slipping (tighten belt).
